The bilingual authorization is a type of educational certificate, which upon completion--alongside of their multiple or single subject credential--will allow students to teach in a bilingual setting. Interested candidates must be proficient in Spanish to participate. To apply for our BILA Certificate, there are specific requirements, including an informal Spanish proficiency examination and Speaking Assessment that will be required of applicants to assess proficiency. To obtain the bilingual authorization, students must complete three courses (9 units) associated with the educational certificate, which includes Chicano/Latino Cultures: An Interdisciplinary Perspective (3 units); Bilingualism and Biliteracy (3 units); and Methodology for Primary Language Instruction in a Bilingual Setting (3 units). Our Master of Arts + Bilingual Authorization Certificate option is a 30-unit program, and the program will include the BILA-specific courses as part of the unit count.
